Advanced Hearing Aid Consultation & Fitting

The hearing aid is only part of the story

Today’s hearing aids are very advanced, but the devices alone don’t determine success. The most important factor is the expertise of the audiologist fitting and programming it.

If advanced hearing aids aren’t correctly prescribed, verified in your ears, and adjusted over time, they won’t deliver their full benefit, no matter how amazing the technology is. That’s why so many devices end up being left in the drawer.

At The Hearing Clinic, we focus on clinical precision and long-term outcomes, not quick sales. As an independent clinic, we recommend what’s right for you, verify every fitting with real-ear measurement, and include four years of follow-up care – because the fitting is just the beginning of your hearing journey.

What our hearing aids consultation process involves

user-circle-dashed

Before any hearing aid is recommended, we carry out a full diagnostic assessment to understand your specific pattern of hearing loss, your listening lifestyle, and what you need from your hearing aids. This shapes everything that follows.

We discuss the options that best match your hearing loss, lifestyle, and preferences, drawing from our full portfolio of leading manufacturers. This means that we recommend what’s best for you, and we are not tied down to one or two brands. There’s no pressure to decide immediately, and we’ll give you time to consider your options.

We offer a trial period so you can experience how your recommended advanced hearing aids perform in your own daily environments – at home, at work, in restaurants, outdoors – before making a final decision.

Headphones

At your hearing aid fitting appointment, your advanced hearing aids are programmed to your audiogram prescription and then verified using real-ear measurement – a small probe microphone is placed in your ear canal that measures exactly how sound reaches your eardrum with the hearing aid in situ. This allows us to fine-tune the programming to your specific ear canal anatomy, not just a generic prescription. It’s the clinical gold standard for hearing aid fitting, and many providers don’t routinely carry it out.

Adjusting to advanced hearing aid technology takes time – your brain needs to relearn how to process sounds it hasn’t heard clearly for years. Our Hearing Optimisation Programme supports this acclimatisation process with structured guidance, realistic expectations, and regular check-ins.

Your care plan includes annual reviews, ongoing adjustments, servicing, and support from your audiologist throughout. Hearing changes over time, and your hearing aid programming will need to be updated too.

This is what one of our patients has to say about our hearing aids:

“Excellent after service”

Excellent after service. Very knowledgeable, understanding, informative and nothing is too much trouble. Teaching how to use the app effectively, showing and demonstrating the app and maintenance of the hearing aids. Getting the client to then demonstrate what they’ve learnt so they can check you are confident in using and looking after your hearing Aids. Trisha has provided a first class experience. The receptionists are always personable and efficient. Thank you all!!

Black left and right hearing aids
Are modern hearing aids noticeable?

Modern hearing aids are much less noticeable than most people expect. Many are very discreet, with slim designs or hidden placements, and some are completely invisible. During your hearing aid consultation at The Hearing Clinic, we’ll show you all your options so you can choose with confidence.

How do I adjust to wearing hearing aids?

Adjustment to wearing hearing aids typically takes a few weeks as your brain relearns sounds. The Hearing Clinic’s Hearing Optimisation Programme supports you with guidance, practical strategies, and follow-ups to help you adapt comfortably.

Can hearing aids improve sound clarity in noisy environments?

Yes – modern devices reduce background noise and focus on speech, with premium models performing especially well. However, no hearing aid removes all noise, and we’ll set clear, realistic expectations.

Does The Hearing Clinic offer trial periods for hearing aids?

Yes, The Hearing Clinic offers trial periods for hearing aids. You can try your recommended hearing aids in daily life before committing. We’ll explain the trial terms clearly at your hearing aid consultation.

Are there hearing aids suited for active lifestyles?

Yes – many hearing aids are water-resistant, rechargeable, and Bluetooth-enabled. Lyric hearing aids are popular for active users as it’s worn continuously and unaffected by sweat or light water exposure.

What is real-ear measurement, and why does it matter for hearing aid fitting?

Real-ear measurement is where a probe measures how sound reaches your eardrum, allowing precise, personalised tuning. It’s the gold standard for fittings and significantly improves outcomes – at The Hearing Clinic, we consider it essential.
