Your hearing connects you to the world around you. It helps to keep you feeling calm, in control, safe, and engaged. When you experience hearing loss, it can interfere with how you interact with the world around you, the people you work with and your friends and family.

At The Hearing Clinic our private audiologists understand the challenges and frustrations that come with changes to your hearing. We work with you to restore hearing and manage hearing loss in a way that works for you.

Types of hearing loss

There are two types of hearing loss: conductive hearing problems, which occur when sound has difficulty passing through the outer or middle ear, and sensorineural hearing problems, which stem from issues with the inner ear (cochlea) or the auditory nerve sending signals to the brain. Conductive hearing problems may be caused by:

  • Ear infections
  • Glue ear
  • Wax build up
  • Eardrum damage
  • Otosclerosis (tiny bones in the middle ear that help transmit sound stop moving as they should)

Sensorineural hearing problems may be caused by:

  • Genetics
  • Viral infections
  • Noise exposure
  • Ageing (presbyacusis)

Take back control of your hearing

Imagine being able to hear at your best and feeling more confident in any situation. Through private hearing tests, treatment and technology, the Hearing Clinic empowers you to take back control of your hearing to make the most of each day.

A full diagnostic assessment can identify the extent of your hearing loss and its impact on your life. We take the time to thoroughly understand how your hearing loss affects your relationships with family and friends, performance at work and engagement in social situations. Diagnostic testing determines functional hearing, areas of concern and underlying problems. Then we’ll work with you to develop a tailored management plan that works for you.

If there is an underlying problem such as earwax build up or tinnitus that is contributing to your hearing loss, The Hearing Clinic develops the appropriate treatment to address these issues and restore hearing.

For other cases of hearing loss, you may find hearing technology very helpful. Hearing aid technology is now extremely advanced, with devices so small and comfortable that patients forget they are wearing them. Many enable you to stream music, sound and even your mobile phone through them.

An independent clinic with private audiologists

The Hearing Clinic is not affiliated with a specific brand of hearing technology. We work with you to find the hearing aid that works best for you and ensure that it is properly fitted and programmed. Aftercare services are flexible and put you in control of your care.

Regain your confidence and independence with help from The Hearing Clinic. We work with you every step of the way to treat hearing loss effectively and efficiently. Contact us today to find out more about a private hearing test or other services, and to book your appointment.

QWhat are the types of hearing test?

AThe typical hearing tests that we perform at The Hearing Clinic are:

  • Video otoscopy: We use a tiny camera to examine the ear canal and eardrum. You will be able to see your ear canal and eardrum.
  • Tympanometry: This tests the condition of the middle ear, eardrum and the conduction bones by altering the air pressure in the ear canal. It’s a painless test.
  • Puretone audiometry: This tests your hearing threshold levels and shows whether you have a hearing loss, and, if so, the type and degree of loss in each ear. We will insert earphones into each ear and play soft tones, enabling us to map your hearing range.
  • Speech testing: These tests use words, sentences and speech-in-noise to test how your hearing brain processes more complex auditory information.
